I'm scare-mongering again
If you subscribe to the Wall Street Journal, you can read this entire article about bird flu. Even if you don't, the article's opening paragraph should be enough to send you screaming for your security blanket:
Should we be worried about bird flu? Yes, very. In recent weeks, national and international medical authorities have issued ever more alarming bulletins about the highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza, popularly known as bird flu. Human infections are increasing, deaths have occurred in Vietnam and Cambodia, and there have been reports of three new family clusters in separate parts of Vietnam in recent days. Even the normally sober World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that mankind may never have faced a greater risk of a deadly epidemic. Adds Julie Gerberding, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC): 'Avian flu poses the single biggest health threat to the world right now.'
