Once again, modern Brits show that they just don't get it
My understanding from reading and listening to multiple reviews of Tom Wolfe's new book, and from hearing Tom Wolfe himself speak on the subject, is that he intended to make sex in his book appear really unpleasant, to demonstrate how college sex is not about pleasure at all, but about myriad different things (power, popularity, etc). Showing how clueless they are in England, a British literary group just awarded him a prize for writing about sex in a boring an unpleasant way: "American author and journalist Tom Wolfe won one of the world's most dreaded literary accolades on Monday -- the British prize for bad sex in fiction.
