Dirty trees

I just got around to listening to yesterday's story about the new scientific study demonstrating the trees produce methane gas, lots of it. Methane, of course, is identified as one of the key industrial byproducts leading to global warming. It's a big ooops when you discover that one of the theory's main ingredients comes from nature, not man. Reading about these dirty trees triggered in me a long dormant memory. How many of you are old enough to remember the ridicule directed at Ronald Reagan in 1981 when he announced that "Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do"? That ridicule has never died. My link for the Reagan quotation is dKosopedia, the DailyKos's leftist answer to Wikipedia. This particular link is to a page dedicated to Reagan's allegedly stupid pronouncements. I guess the last laugh is with Reagan (and he would have liked that thought) now that science has discovered that he was probably right all along. Talking to Technorati: , , , , , ,
